The work of Cindy Press celebrates women by exploring the connection between our physical bodies and personal identity. Inspired by fashion, photography and popular culture Press references personal issues, sexuality and gender as a central theme in her work.  Press considers how style reflects how we engage with the world around us. “Clothes are a personal decision and what we choose to wear is the way we express ourselves. Often times it’s a gesture or pose I am interested in, it’s there that I see the history of figure or portrait painting”. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Press is a graduate of Moore College Of Art And Design. Being a fashion illustration major at Moore prepared her for decades of success in the fashion design world. She went onto work with artists such as Peter Max, an iconic painter of the 60”s and 70’s, interpreting his artwork into wearable art.  By merging her knowledge of fashion, the human figure, her life as a woman, mother and artist Press’s artwork forms a narrative that speaks to both men and women. Her female characters are inspired with an array of human emotion that goes beyond gender or age. She does not objectify the subjects of her paintings and drawings but instead seeks to capture their drama, confidence, sex appeal and charm. Press likes to emphasize the provocative, challenging the viewer to think even if it makes them uncomfortable.  Her style is heavily influenced by contemporary fashion photography from the 60’s to present time. While her signature is the way she transforms black and white oil paint on canvas Press likes to surprise with the occasional sprinkling of color added to the mix. Her process is evolving as she photographs her own subjects to create the reference for her work. Press’swork has been exhibited worldwide and is in private collections around the globe in major hubs such as New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, Sydney, Dubai and Hong Kong. Some of her clients include Bloomingdales, The Four Season’s Hotel, The Thompson Hotel Group and AIDA Cruise Line.

Cynara White Table Lamp

Made by a group of women who live at the border of Burma and Thailand, the Cynara Table Lamp is a lovely oversized white lamp shaped like an artichoke. Each leaf, or bract as they are called with the real plant, is made of ceramic and affixed by hand, the shaping a painstaking process in order to mimic the lamp's edible namesake. The body of the Cynara is then finished in a soft antique white. Plavan Jar (Set of 3)

The Plavan Jar Set includes three lidded offering boxes with luminous brass rings running the circumference of the bottom, the top, and along each edge where the lid meets the jar. The electric blue pattern that seems to drip along the surface of each jar is actually painted by hand. Proving that these pieces are artisanal in their creation, some brushstrokes show the culmination point where the artist lifted the brush on the lighter oblong shapes, the action leaving a darker spot at that point. Though these blue decorative jars were inspired by centuries-old designs, they have a surprisingly contemporary feel. Octopus Medium Vase

The Octopus Medium Vase is a decorative accessory handmade of stoneware by women artisans living at the border of Burma and Thailand. The process they used to create it is challenging and time-consuming. First the vase is thrown by one artisan; then another artist works by hand to apply the octopus to the profile of the cream vase before it is hand glazed and fired. The artful application and the dripping of the reactive blue glaze makes each piece a one-of-kind objet-d'art with a strong French Mediterranean feel. Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth or static duster. Always avoid the use of harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners as they may cause damage to the item's finish.
